The GATERS

Lonnie Walter
In World War II, Liberty Ships were built in Sausalito in an area now known as the Gates. The WW II names Gate 3, Gate 5 and Gate 6 are still used for these areas. The GATERS are remnants of the REDLEGS, a band that formed and lived in the Gates area during the late sixties. Two former members of the REDLEGS, Maggie Catfish and Joe Tate are joined by Sandy Bailey and Lonnie Walter, who grew up at the Gates.
The GATERS regularly play at the No Name Bar in Sausalito, where they lay down some low key sounds employing Lonnie Walter on bongos instead of the usual set of traps. It's not easy listening because this stuff has a bite but it's never too loud so you can enjoy the music and still have conversation.
