Petra Anderson, an alumna of the Conservatory of Music at the University of the Pacific, was shot and critically injured during the shooting at The Dark Knight Rises premiere in Aurora, CO. In addition to three shotgun pellets that hit her arm, one pellet went through her nose, into her brain, and hit the back of her skull. After more than five hours of surgery, doctors were successful in repairing the damage, and Petra is on her way to a full recovery.
Unfortunately, this tragedy has not been the only one to face Petra and her family. Earlier this summer Petra’s mother, Kim, discovered her breast cancer had returned and spread to her liver, lungs, and bones. The prognosis was not good. On August 26, surrounded by family, Kim succumbed to her cancer. The incredible loss Petra and her family have experienced are not the only challenges they face.
Despite Petra’s miraculous recovery, the costs of her surgery, hospital care, and rehabilitation are a great financial burden. Furthermore, Petra will need significant rehabilitation before she can continue with her studies in music as a composer. Petra is known for her incredible drive and inspiring passion for music, and we have put this concert together to honor her passion for music, and provide support in any ways that we can.
Thank you.
